17-year-old orphan killed by mob in Lira city for stealing chickens

Angry residents of Arumgai cell in Iwal Ward, Lira City East Division in Lira City today assaulted a 17-year-old boy over the alleged theft of two chickens.

The deceased Emmanuel Okullo, a total orphan who had been living with a relative Jacinta Adebe was caught by a group of people with two suspected stolen chickens and he was beaten by the angry mob.

Okullo later died as a result of beating.

It is reported that the deceased had disappeared from home and went to town but would only sneak home to steal from the village.

The North Kyoga regional Police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the incident to LBS Radio when contacted.

According to Okema, the incident was reported to police by the area local council one chairperson Nelson Abura under police vide CRB:70/2021 of Lira central police station.

“The scene was visited by detectives, scene of crime officers, and homicide team,” Okema said.

He added that the body was taken to Lira regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem as other inquiries continue although no arrest was made yet.
