The retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Julius Peter Odwee has attributed the rampant murders being committed in Lango sub region to the abject poverty the people in the  region is currently facing.

According to Odwee, poverty causes psychological distress and trauma hence being an escalating factor for murders as people fight for land and other decreasing resources for human livelihood.

In a recent statistical report released by the North Kyoga regional police headquarters ,at least 130 cases of  murder have been reported to police since January with 30 committed in the last one month.

For the greater part of the Covid-19 second wave induced lock down period  there has been a murder case reported to police in Lango sub region.

Speaking to Lango Broadcasting Service Monday, Julius Peter Odwee said he had offered to draft a security paper aimed at eliminating the unnecessary killings in Lango which will be presented to different stakeholders for ratification.

According to Odwee, the paper will be ready in a week’s time  for its first presentation to leaders and different stakeholders and that  if adopted for usage will go along away in addressing the issue of rampant murders being committed by the people in Lango.

Odwee asked other institutions including traditional, religious and government to domesticate the paper if approved as documents once ratified as a working document.

Three weeks ago the Paramount Chief of Lango Cultural Foundation (Won Nyaci) Yosam Odur Ebii voiced his deep concern on the increasing tendencies of murders and suicide being committed in the sub-region describing it as an indictment and humiliation to the people of Lango.
