Four arrested in Kaberamaido over Emyooga fund

Four people have been arrested IN Kaberamido district after failing to account for over UGX 25 million Emyooga fund.

Those arrested are the district commercial officer Kaberamido Richard Eculu and members of Kaberamaido County taxi operators Sacco.

Chairperson of the Sacco Mr George William Oloco, Secretary Jacob Okwerede, treasurer Geoffrey Egonyu and Richard Eculu the district commercial officer have all been detained by police.

It is alleged that Richard Eculu asked for Shs one million bribe from members of the Sacco.

The chairperson of Kaberamido County Sacco George William Oloco on Friday confessed before Kaberamido County Member of Parliament Alfred Elalu Olale Edakasi on Friday last week.

Elalu was monitoring the performance of Emyooga in his constituency.

Eculu denied the allegation.

The deputy Resident District Commissioner Clair Ayipo and Edakasi directed police to arrest Eculu so that he could explain why he was soliciting bribes from Sacco.

By Sunday evening, the suspects were still in detention at Kaberamaido central police station.

Kaberamaido district received over Shs one billion for Emyooga program which the government is disbursing through microfinance support center limited to benefit over 30 Sacco groups in the district.
