The Covid-19 Task force of Lira City has restricted the number of people allowed to attend the much anticipated Lira Diocese’s Priestly and Diaconate ordination scheduled for Thursday to only 50.

According to the Ordination band, one deacon will receive priestly ordination while five seminarians will receive diaconate ordination at an event which will be presided over by the Bishop Ordinary Rt.Rev.Sanctus Lino Wanok at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Lira.

Rev Deacon Aaron Okello from Lira Cathedral will be ordained a priest mean while five Seminarians including Emmanuel Opio Etam and Moses Edyomo from Dokolo Catholic Parish will be ordained as Deacons.

The other three seminarians to be ordained as Deacons are Douglas Ogwal from Teboke Catholic Parish, Rogers Okello from the newly established Omoro Catholic Parish and Isaac Ojok from Aloi Catholic Parish.

Lira Catholic Diocese had requested the Covid-19 task force to allow them have at least 100 people to attend the ordination but the task force in their reply allowed only 50 to help curtail the spread of Covid-19.

Speaking to Lango Broadcasting Service in an exclusive interview Tuesday evening, the Vicar General of Lira Diocese Monsignor Innocent Valente Opio said all the categories of people including the priests, the religious, parishioners and choir will be well represented.

Msgr Opio added that the Diocese is upbeat about a successful ordination as all the prepations have been made and only making final touches on it.

The preparations are categorized into two; Liturgical preparation for Eucharist Celebrations and the spiritual preparation of the candidates to receive the holy orders.

He says it’s a great joy to the mother Church to welcome the new priest and the five deacons.

Lango Broadcasting Service understands that the candidates are being hosted at Ngetta Cathercateral Pastoral Center for eight days retreat with Fr John Valero leading the processes.

The retreat is ideally to make the candidates prepare the hearts and soul to get well connected to God and to receive the Holy Orders.
