A Uganda people’s defense forces (UPDF) soldier has shot dead a 20 year-old woman before shooting himself in Apac district.
The incident happened on Monday at Achenglet cell, Ayeolyech parish in Akokoro sub-county, Apac district.
The deceased are Sharon Akello 20 and Samuel Ojara 45, a UPDF soldier attached to the National Agricultural Research Organization army detach.
It is alleged that on the 30th Aug 2021 at night, Ojara Samuel followed Akello Sharon while going to bathe in the shared shelter within the barracks and Ojara shot Akello at a close range and later shot himself too.
It is still not clear what could have caused the killing.
Police in Apac central police station has registered a murder case by shooting under police vide CRB 436/2021.
According to Okema, police suspects that the UPDF officer could have developed a mind to rape the lady but because of shame, he took that action of shooting her and himself.
The North Kyoga regional police spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident and said police visited the scene of crime on Monday evening while another team will also revisit the scene on Tuesday.
The two bodies were picked and taken to Apac hospital pending postmortem.
