Kaberamaido – District leaders in Kaberamaido have raised concerns over the standard of road construction works which they say does not match budgetary allocations.
The roads that are currently undergoing grading include a six-kilometer road stretching from Katingi trading center to Ominai Primary school in Alwa Sub County at a tune of shillings 24 million, Kaberamaido Sub County to Alito (8KM) at shillings 31million, Ogodai – Akado six kilometer in Kobulubulu Sub County at shillings 17million.
In a meeting chaired by Mr Jimmy Ebil Segawa, the resident district commissioner of Kaberamaido, the leaders said the figures reflected on the bill of quantity for the roads doesn’t portray the work being done on the ground.
Mrs. Isa Judith the chairperson works and social services reiterated that during their monitoring processes they witnessed some roads only cleared without proper compacting.
Isa accused some sub county leadership in Kaberamaido for frustrating their efforts in providing proper monitoring of the roads’ projects.
Mr. David Ababa the chairperson finance committee appealed for investigations in the education, health and engineering department so that the locals get effective service delivery.
The district chairperson Mr. Victor Rex Ekesu pledged total support by doing proper monitoring on all sectors in the district to realize a corruption free district.
Mr. Francis Ewayu the district engineer who was summoned by police over allegations of siphoning fuel from one of the graders was quick to say that they will ensure value for money is realized.
On 15th November, three machine operators were arrested over alleged theft of fuel from the engineering department meant for grading of some roads in the district.
They are Mr. Joseph Elenyu, Mr. Joseph Angwal and Mr. Denis Oryekot. The trio was on Wednesday arraigned before Kaberamaido grade one magistrate Piremba Emmanuel who remanded them to Kaberamaido government prison until 8th December 2021.
