Luwero-Five prisoners died in an accident involving Uganda Prisons vehicle on Monday morning at Luwero. The truck overturned this morning along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
The accident which happened at around 9:45am at a place called Nalongo in Luwero district involved a Uganda Prisons Vehicle, a Tata lorry reg number UG0363U and a Toyota fielder number UBG 587.
According to Faridah Nampiima the traffic police spokesperson, the Prisons vehicle which had 55 prisoners on board and 12 prisons staff had a head on collision with the Toyota fielder which sustained a tyre burst and veered off to the wrong side of the road.
She says the lorry then overturned several times leaving five prisoners dead and several others injured.
Nampiima says the injured have been evacuated to Kasana for medical attention and the bodies of the deceased taken to the hospital mortuary.
