UK – A contingent of 10 Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) officers, coordinated by Brig Gen James Kaija, Uganda Mission Defence Advisor and led by Major John Jovani Agella, participated in a parade to mark Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The Queen is the first British Monarch to celebrate 70 years on the Crown as Head of State since 1952.
To celebrate this unprecedented anniversary, several colourful events including parades, musical concerts, communal and street parties took place in London and across the UK, culminating in a four day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th June 2022.
In a message at the end of the celebrations, the Queen expressed her gratitude, “I have been inspired by the kindness, joy and kinship that has been so evident in recent days, and I hope this renewed sense of togetherness will be felt for many years to come.”
According to Uganda High Commission in London, UPDF contingent was among 29 Common wealth countries’ military parades that participated in the celebrations on Sunday.
“It is a manifestation of the cordial bilateral relations between the UK and Uganda in various sectors, including cooperation in defence and training.” Says the mission
The UPDF team later paid a courtesy call at Uganda Mission London where they were commended by the Ag. High Commissioner, Amb John Leonard Mugerwa and staff for representing the country and were briefed about the Mission’s mandate.
