Anxiety as witchcraft rocks communities in Dokolo

Dokolo-Local leaders of Bata Sub County have threatened to start evicting people alleged to be practicing witchcraft in the area.

This follows several reports of deaths attributed to witchcraft including among others nine children of James Onyok, the LC1 chairperson of Barlela village who died within a short period of time.

Alex Ojok, the LCIII chairperson of Bata Sub County who is also the head of security asked people involved in this evil act to stop it immediately or face eviction from the area.

Ojok who was on Monday speaking during the last funeral rites of two infants at Barlela parish in Bata Subcounty assured residents that a meeting will soon be convened to identify those practicing witchcraft.

Mary Ongen, the female councilor representing older persons to Dokolo district council however warned against pin pointing the elderly as being the ones practicing witchcraft asking locals to be factual while identifying the culprits.

Quoting a scripture from 1st Kings 12: 15-20, Rev. Hagard Emuny of Bata Archideconary said Christians should copy the life of king David who lost his child and continued to serve God.

According to Rev. Emuny much as death can be painful to the affected families, the most important thing is for them to surrender their lives to God.
