Kalaki man lynched by mob on theft allegations

Kalaki -A 36 year old man has been lynched by mob in Otuboi Sub County for alleged theft and vandalism.

John Adipa a resident of Oyimai A, Lwala Parish, Otuboi Sub County in Kalaki district was killed on Tuesday night at around 11:00 pm after he was reportedly caught knocking down the fence of Lwala Girls Secondary School in Kalaki district, reportedly to sell it as scrap.

The angry residents mobbed him and beat him to death, eye witnesses say.

Adipa’s body was abandoned at the scene with a range of exhibits including the tools he is said to have been using to pull down the fence.

His body was recovered on Wednesday morning by police attached to Otuboi town council and taken to Soroti Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Moses Oriada, the LCIII chairperson and head of security of Otuboi Sub County confirms the report.

Oriada notes that cases of theft and house break-ins are on the rise in Kalaki to the irritation of the community which could be the reason behind the mob action.

Our attempts to get a comment from police in Otuboi were futile.

In 2021, police warned the communities around Lwala against vandalizing properties belonging to institutions after one suspect was arrested for theft of a laptop belonging to the Rev. Father Deo Okonye Tembo of Lwala Parish.
