Two held in Kabalagala over forgery of USA Visas

Kampala-Detectives at American Embassy in conjunction with Kabalagala Police have arrested two suspects in connection with forgery of USA visas.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala police spokesperson identifies the suspects as one Oscar Bamwenda and one Nyeko Steven alias Toby Steven.

It’s alleged that on Monday Sept 19, 2022 at 12:30 pm, a one Smith Daniel Mubiru, went to the Embassy with a passport of his friend to confirm if the visa was genuinely issued.

According to Onyango, the Embassy checked the Passport and confirmed that the Visa was forged.

“Detectives attached to the US Embassy immediately asked Smith to direct them to where his friend was. The detectives were led up to a hotel opposite Centenary Bank, Kabalagala branch and they got the suspect with another forged passport and visa waiting to be paid Shs 12 million.” Says Onyango.

He adds that detective at the Embassy coordinated the arrest of Oscar Bamwenda, the individual who forged the visa and was waiting at the hotel.

“Oscar Bamwenda led Police to Nyeko Steven alias Toby Steven, who is behind forgery of the two visas. Both suspects are detained at Kabalagala Police on forgery charges.” Says Onyango

This case was filled at Kabalagala Police under S.D 130/19/09/2022.

The developments comes just a week after police in close coordination with the US Embassy arrested three suspects for allegedly submitting fraudulent documents for US Visas to the embassy.

The suspects include Innocent Opio the first secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Emmanuel wandera, a Foreign Service officer, Louis Mary Kiwanuka a courier at the same ministry and John Baptist Odong a corporal driver who has since fled to the US.

Police have urged members of the public to follow proper procedures to acquire travel documents not through illegal means.
