Dokolo-The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) working together with police in Dokolo have defused a bomb recovered from Bata town council on Monday.

Babra Akech, Dokolo Resident District Commissioner told journalists at her office that the bomb is suspected to have been buried there during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency in the early 2, 000s.

Akech said that UPDF attached to the 5th Division bomb squad arrived in Dokolo on Monday night and safely removed the bomb.

She said the bomb was unearthed by a farmer who was ploughing with oxen earlier on Monday.

The UPDF bomb squad confirmed that the item was a bomb, which was destroyed in a less populated area behind Akiibua Stadium in Lira City.

RDC Akech lauded the UPDF for their quick response whenever called upon to the rescue the community.

“I got in touch with the Division Commander who responded by sending a response team. They executed the mission and destroyed the bomb in Lira city.” Said Aketch

She has appealed to the public to always report anything suspicious which they think can cause insecurity in the district to the security organs.

Also in Otuke, the RDC Jillian Akullu says the team had removed another bomb on Monday evening.

“The UPDF successfully removed a bomb when the matter was reported to them,” she said in a telephone interview with our reporter.

Akullu is warning parents whose children sell scrap to be vigilant with the materials they pick as scrap.
