Dokolo LC3 chairperson arrested for destroying resident’s crops

Dokolo – The LC 3 chairperson of Agwata Sub County Morris Okao alias KG is behind bars for malicious damage to property.

Okao was arrested on Monday and detained at Dokolo Central Police Station after he allegedly destroyed crops from the garden of one Jancinta Atim, a resident of Oleko-cheke village, Alyeijuk parish, Agwata Sub County in Dokolo district.

It’s reported that on 8th June 2022, Okao and 10 others slashed down the crops including rice, soya beans, potatoes and beans among others claiming that they were grown in a wetland. 

Atim says the destroyed crops were planted on 8 acres of land. She estimates the cost of the damage at 80 million shillings noting that her family has been exposed to hunger and poverty due to the destruction.

Hannington Busheija, the District Police Commander Dokolo confirmed the arrest of Okao saying no one is above the law. 

The case is registered at Dokolo Central Police Station under CRB 408/2022.
