Suspected UPDF driver shoots dead boda boda rider at Kawanda SS

Wakiso-A suspected Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) driver has shot dead a boda boda rider at Kawanda Senior Secondary School in Nakisangye Zone, Nabweru Division in Wakiso.

The incident happened on Friday at round 9am following a misunderstanding between the victim identified as Ronald Waligo (38), a resident of Kirinya Bigo Kawanda in Wakiso district and Abdul Ssali who was driving a UPDF vehicle.

Police preliminary investigations into the matter indicate that Ssali while leaving the school after picking one of the students in senior three met a number of motorcycles and cars at the gate. The road being narrow, he was prompted to squeeze on the side where the deceased had parked.

This is said to have caused an altercation after Waligo complained to the driver of being squeezed which attracted a big group of riders that also condemned his action .

It allegedly prompted the driver to enter his vehicle where he picked an AK47 rifle shooting at the victim and killing him instantly before he sped off from the crime scene.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson says the police was invited at the scene where they noted that the deceased was shot on left shoulder and the bullet came out from the right shoulder something that killed him instantly.

“We have been able to identify the vehicle with the help of CCTV cameras. The number plate of the said vehicle has been identified by the Police as H4DF 1939,” says Owoyesigyire

He says the body of the deceased was conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem and they also recovered a motorcycle Bajaj Boxer UEG 721c that belongs to the deceased at the scene of crime .

Owoyesigyre says they will liase with the UPDF to help identify the driver for statement recording and Prosecution.
