Wakiso – An end of year party organised for Ran Engineering Solutions staff at Botanical Gardens in Entebbe Municipality turned tragic after one of their own drown in Lake Victoria.

The incident happened on Friday when the deceased identified as Ivan Sserunjoji was having fun at the party together with his workmates about 20 in number.

The party which started at around 11 am was composed of swimming and playing football among other social activities.

At about 4pm, Sserunjoji drowned in Lake Victoria waters at Botanical gardens and was rescued by his workmates and rushed to St Emmanuel Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sserungoji was a Technician at Ran Engineering Solutions and a resident of Lugoba, Kawempe.

According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the body of the deceased was taken to City mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.

“We want to appeal to members of the public that if you do not know how to swim please don’t attempt to enter in any water body whether its river or lake. We know that during this season there are many parties that are organised in beaches and when people get excited even if one does know how to swim they just jump in the water,” cautioned Onyango

He also appealed to the managers and owners of beaches to have trained people on standby to reduce victims.

Onyango said these should not allow their clients who do not know how to swim to enter in the Lake.
