Security launches crackdown on unnatural sexual practices amid unprecedented increase

Kampala – Police working together with other sister security agencies have intensified their fight against homosexuality and other unnatural sexual practices in the country.

This follows a growing concern of children and young adults being sodomized and groomed into these practices by owners of child sex networks.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson says some of these acts have been filmed and shared on social media platforms especially TikTok.

“These videos as we have seen them are of victims who are recruited, they are groomed, they are paid and taken through very explicit acts of oral sex, anal sex and other indecent practices and most of the victims are usually from extremely poor backgrounds and others from very vulnerable backgrounds,” Enanga told journalists at police headquarters in Nagulu on Monday.

It’s against this background that he said, as joint security agencies, they are going to do every thing within their means to safeguard Ugandan children.

The police mouth piece called upon the public, child rights defenders, local leaders and the community to team up with the police in fighting child sex abuse and exploitation.

The development follows the arrest of a 34-year-old businessman in Mbarara city for sexually grooming into sodomy and molesting two male victims aged 17 and 18 during the months of January and February 2023.

The suspect, a one Michael Saturday from Kilembe Cell in Nyamityobora ward, Mbarara City doubles as an employer to the victims, who were vending pineapples for him in the city.

“…Saturday had rented a single room which he was sharing with his six workers who shared one mattress. The suspect who had a separate bed would repeatedly sodomize these workers in turns until it came to the attention of police which took action and arrested him,” said Enanga

He thanked the 18 year old victim who took courage and reported the matter to police. Enanga noted that the victim was subjected to medical examination at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and proof of a ruptured anus established. “The other victims were to be examined as well,” he said

In a separate development, the police in Kasangati has in custody, a one Jimmy Peter Matovu, a 30 year old, resident of Lubatu zone, Kiteezi Parish, Kasangati Town Council, for threatening violence and attempted Sodomy, of a 24 year old shop attendant, who visited him in his room on Saturday at around 1pm.

“The victim put up resistance after he was put at knife-point and alerted residents, who mobilized and arrested the suspect. A search was conducted at his home and a sex toy, a knife and other exhibits recovered,” noted Enanga

He strongly condemned all forms of sexual violence adding that police will ensure the perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes.

According to Section 145 of the Penal Code Act, of 1950, having unnatural sexual intercourse is criminal and attracts life imprisonment on conviction.
