Lira – Police in Lira-City West Division is investigating circumstances under which a 24-year-old student at Uganda Technical College (UTC) drowned in a swimming pool.
The incident happened on February 25, 2023 when the deceased identified as Timothy Mungufe and his fellow students had gone to relax at Front Page Lounge in Lira City.
It’s alleged that Mungufe later jumped into the swimming pool though his colleagues had stopped him several times not to.
“The swimming pool attendant rescued him and was rushed immediately to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for first Aid and treatment, but shortly after an hour he was pronounced dead,” says Patrick Okema the North Kyoga police spokesperson.
Okema added in a statement on Monday that police detectives led by the Divisional OCCID visited the scene, obtained some relevant statements from Management and were yet to record more statement from his fellow students to ascertain what exactly happened.
He noted that the body of the deceased had been conveyed to the mortuary at Lira Regional Referral Hospital pending postmortem.
“It was observed that he hit his head on a hard surface probably the tiles,” said Okema
