Kampala – The territorial police in Katwe are hunting for a housemaid who disappeared with a one-and-a-half-year-old child from Kanyanya zone in Ndejje parish, Makindye Ssabagabo on Sunday evening.
The maid, only identified as Monica allegedly ran away with the child, Esther Nawaguma, a daughter to Betty Najjemba a businesswoman in Kanyanya zone.
It’s alleged that the suspect disappeared with the victim on Sunday evening after her employer (mother to the child) tasked her to produce Shs200,000 that had gone missing in the house, considering that only the two of them reside in the house together with the daughter.
“This employer threatened that by the time she returns, she wants to find when the money is there. So what this maid did, she just picked the daughter and disappeared with her,” says Fred Enanga, police spokesperson
He urged the suspect to return the child voluntarily or risk facing consequences of this serious offence.
The police mouth piece warned parents to always do due diligence about people
before they hire them as house maids. “This is an employer who doesn’t have a copy of the National ID or any information about this lady..you need to carry out due diligence about the people whom you are hiring.”
