Dokolo district boss knocks officer in road crash

Dokolo – Police in Dokolo are investigating circumstances under which the District Chairperson James Apili Otoo allegedly knocked the outgoing Dokolo District Community Liaison officer (CLO) Onek-Giu Roman Oyo in an accident.

The incident happened on Thursday last week at around 6 pm along Lira-Soroti highway opposite Dokolo health center IV.

It is reported that on a fateful day, Onek-Giu was riding a police motorcycle registration number UP 847 while following a double cabin vehicle registration number UG 6951 which was being driven by Apili.

Along the way, Apili suddenly stopped and reversed to attend to a person who called out his name. As a result, Onek-Giu was hit by the vehicle leaving him unconscious. He was rushed to Lacor Hospital in Gulu City where he’s still receiving medical attention.

Speaking to our reporter on his hospital bed, Onek-Giu asked for people’s prayers to be relieved of the pain.

When contacted by LBS Newsday about the incident, the district boss however denied knocking the officer noting that he had parked his vehicle on the roadside when Onek-Giu who was riding a police motorcycle hit it.

Onek-Giu who was recently transferred to Abim district was in the process of moving to his new workplace the day he was knocked.

Jimmy Patrick Okema the North Kyoga police spokesperson confirms that investigations are ongoing to establish the facts of the matter.
