Dokolo- Construction has stalled at Adeknino seed secondary school in Dokolo district.
On October 10, 2022, Dokolo district local government officially awarded the construction work to Bygon Enterprise Ltd with the project expected to be completed by March 24, 2024.
In their first progress report of May 4, 2023, for the construction of different facilities at the school, the company pointed out various challenges affecting their work.
Bosco Okello Odongo, the Technical Director at Bygon Enterprise Ltd, said there is a scarcity of local building materials such as aggregates, quarry dust and hardcore among others.
Okello noted that the current rains have also disrupted work progress and delivery of materials to the site.
Although the company has already received a 20% advance payment of 537,369,050 shillings, Okello said currently, there is no ongoing activity as they plan to resume after 30 days.
He says that the physical work progress at the site still remains at 17%, with time progress at 28%.
Sowed Musafiri, the Dokolo district communications officer has rallied locals surrounding Ayugi Rock in Dokolo town council to take advantage and involve themselves in quarrying to support the construction work.
He attributed the shortage of construction materials to congestion by different constructors at Ngeta Rock in Lira city, where good construction materials are found.
Bygon Enterprise Ltd was contracted by Dokolo district local government to construct different facilities at Adeknino seed secondary school for a total contract consideration of over 2.6 billion shillings.
Among the facilities to be constructed include 3 units of 2 classroom blocks, administration block, ICT and library block, 2 units science laboratory, Multipurpose hall, 3 twin staff houses and kitchens, Drainable latrines (5 stances for boys and girls, 2 stances for teachers and 2 stances with bathrooms for teachers’ quarters), Sports field and a rainwater harvest tank.
