Kampala – Six people have so far picked nomination forms to run for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag in the forthcoming Oyam North constituency parliamentary by-election.

According to Dr. Tanga Odoi the NRM electoral commission chairperson, by close of the business on Thursday, the NRM secretariat had issued nomination forms to the six including Daniel Bala, Queen Dorothy Amolo, Amb. Julius Peter Moto, Augustine Obangakene, Willy Omodo Omodo and Samuel Okello the son of the late minister Charles Okello Engola who was the area MP.

While speaking to our reporter, one of the contenders Daniel Bala said that once elected, he will work closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that youth are always involved in different anti-poverty programs to solve unemployment.

He also promised to engage in constructive debates and work collaboratively with fellow representatives to shape effective policies that address the pressing issues affecting the country.

“There is a need to link the people of Oyam North to development partners to get resources needed for the population and this can be achieved through the meaningful network and contacts both locally and globally to cause development,” said Bala.

Bala also pledged to tackle the issue of school dropout which is very high in the community and this he said will be done through stakeholders’ engagement.

The Oyam North by-election is slated for July 6, 2023, according to the Electoral Commission.

The seat fell vacant following the demise of Charles Okello Engola who doubled as the Labour State Minister.
