Kazimba urges newly ordained priests, deacon on purposeful ministry

Kampala – The Archbishop of the church of Uganda Dr. Kazimba Mugalu on Sunday ordained two priests and a deacon at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala.

Those priested include Rev. Agnes Joy Narukundo of St. James Chapel Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and Rev Geoffrey Eluk from St. Francis Chapel Makerere University.

Ordinand Lorna Ainembabazi, PhD United graduate, School of Theology in Yonsei University, South Korea was also ordained deacon during the occasion.

Archbishop Kazimba tasked the newly ordained clergy to have purposeful ministry to make a difference in this country

‘I want to congratulate the newly priested and ordained deacon team. They are joining us at a time when we have a number of challenges, especially in the areas of secularism, materialism, consumerism, and corruption. Like now we are entering Christmas, you might find some people are struggling to get money through bad ways like stealing or cheating to enjoy Christmas which means people are not so sure why they celebrate Christmas……… We pray that this team will help us as they bring a new blood,” said Archbishop Kazimba while talking to press shortly after the ordination service.

The basic work of a deacon is to assist the priest under whom he/she serves in leading worship of the people especially in the administration of the holy communion. He/she may also when required to do so.

While a priest is entitled to work with the bishop and his/her fellow priests a servant/shepherd among the people to whom he/she is sent. He is to proclaim the word of God, to call his people to repentance in Christ’s name, to absolve and declare the forgiveness of sins. He/she is to baptist and to prepare the baptized for confirmation. Also, he/she is to preside over the celebration of holy communion and also lead God’s people to prayer and worship to intercede for them to bless them in the name of the Lord and to teach and encourage by word and example. He/she is to minister to the sick and prepare those dying for their death among many other roles
