Dokolo: Pupils at Apyen-nyang primary school in Kwera Sub County, Dokolo District, have fled the school premises over alleged witchcraft.

According to reports, since the beginning of academic year 2024 which started on 5th February, the school has registered only 64 pupils out of 889 pupils who have been studying at Apyen-nyang in 2023.

Parents who spoke to this website on condition of anonymity asked the school administration to call for the prayers at the school or else employ the services of traditional healers to counteract witchcraft related sickness on pupils who are being attacked by demons.

Other parents asked the leaders to intervene and ensure that the pupils return to school.

The Local Council three chairperson of Kwera sub county David Adim confirmed that the sub county will do all it takes to visit the school and settle the matter so that pupils resume immediately.

Resident district commissioner of Dokolo Barbara Akech together with her team from the education department were prompted to visit the school on Tuesday and met with education stakeholders where they resolved to organize prayers at the school to cast out the demons and witchcraft attacking pupils at school.

However, Akech later closed the school but calls for calmness and pledge to do all it takes to make sure pupils return for studies.

Dokolo was ranked among the worst performing districts in the recently released PLE results for 2023, registering the highest number of pupils who failed than those who passed.

In 2011 Authorities in Dokolo district closed schools of Bar-Dyang, Bata Ebwol and Aburcero primary because it was abandoned by teachers and pupils citing witchcraft.
