Two candidates surrender in Dokolo by-election during UPC district conference

UPC district conference is guided by the party constitution Article 11. 6, and it is chaired by the UPC district chairperson to unveil Parliamentary candidate for a particular area.

During the Dokolo district conference held on Monday at Dokolo Catholic parish to get a flag bearer for Dokolo by-election, William Onyanga the UPC party registrar declared Aguti Sarah unopposed after two candidates, Acen Josephine the Amolatar district education officer and Anna Okwir, the former Dokolo district councilor who had shown interest to contest in Dokolo by-election under UPC ticket surrendered.

She was nominated by Fred Arim Ogera from Kangai sub county and seconded by Richard Okao the UPC chairperson for Dokolo North constituency who lauded her for her generous contribution to the party.

Speaking after receiving the party flag Aguti Sarah Nyangkori who studied Social work and social administration with 2 postgraduates in administrative law and Monitoring and evaluation, pledged to prioritize boosting both health and education sector alongside fighting unemployment in the country.

Jimmy Awany one of the political assistants to Jimmy James Michael Akena of Lira city East division warned Lango natives against supporting leadership of inheritance.

He added that parents shouldn’t boycott family responsibilities like paying school among others.

Earlier, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) also unveiled Janet Adongo, the party’s flag bearer for the 2021 general election for the same race as FDC fronted late Cecilia Ogwal’s daughter Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal.

According to the Electoral Commission, the nomination of aspiring candidates for the by-election race is set for March 11 to 12.

Nominated candidates will conduct campaign meetings for one week from March 13 to 19.

The Dokolo District woman MP seat fell vacant following the death of former woman MP Dokolo Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, 77, on January 18 in an Indian hospital and was buried in Alito in Kole district on January 27.
