UPDF Soldier Found Dead in Moroto

Moroto. Joint Security Forces in the Karamoja sub-region are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a UPDF soldier in Moroto district.

The deceased, identified as Bosco Okello, was attached to the Kauriong Army detachment in Amudat district. Reports indicate that Okello went to Kosiroi trading center on Wednesday morning to buy food but never returned. His colleagues initiated a search and found his body on Saturday, lying in the bush just 150 meters from the main road. Okello was dressed in a UPDF T-shirt and trousers.

Michael Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson, stated that a team of detectives and a sniffer dog were dispatched to the scene, but no positive leads were found for an arrest.

In a related development, the Joint Security Forces have been deployed along the Rupa-Nakiloro road following a series of attacks by suspected Karamojong warriors. These armed warriors have been laying ambushes, stealing cattle, and extorting money from road users.

Michael Longole mentioned that visibility in the Nakiloro area has been enhanced, and mobile motorized patrols are in place to ensure the safety of the community and road users. He urged communities and travelers to report any attacks to the security forces for a swift response and appealed to the public to cooperate with the forces to address these threats effectively.
