The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is gearing up for the 2026 general elections and is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations.
As part of this effort, the party is set to commence the second and final phase of updating its membership register today, from January 29 to February 1, 2025.
In the first phase of the exercise, which concluded on December 30, 2024, 18.5 million members were verified and an impressive 7,636,579 new members were registered.
This shows the overwhelming support and trust that the people of Uganda have in the NRM, making it a formidable force in the upcoming elections.
The second phase of the membership update will target members at the village, district, and city levels, in a four-day effort to finalize preparations.
This will also provide an opportunity for current members to verify and correct any errors in their details, ensuring that the party has accurate and up-to-date information.
Addressing Journalists on Tuesday at Tourist Hotel in Dokolo town council, Oremo Hillary Odwee, who is overseeing the exercise in Lango Sub Region, emphasized the importance of the NRM voter update.
He urged voters to take part in the exercise and also called on interested individuals to join the party.
”This is a chance for those who believe in the NRM’s mission and vision to become a part of the movement and contribute to its growth and success” he explained.
He stated that this exercise is happening at the same time as the Independent Electoral Commission’s registration, and urged voters to participate in both activities as they are vital for the upcoming elections.
Amidst concerns about handling internal disputes within such a short time frame, Oremo assured that the party has a well-organized system in place.
”All interested individuals will be registered first, and disputes will be resolved during village meetings known as “Barazza”. Oremo said.
With an impressive number of members already registered and the second phase of the membership update starting today, the party is poised to emerge as a strong contender.
