Dokolo RDC Cracks Down on Truancy, Arrests 10  Learners and Negligent Parents

February 10th, 2025 Dokolo – Security in Dokolo has taken a strong step towards improving the education system with the recent arrest of 10 school-going children and some parents for absenteeism and low turnout of learners at schools.

‎On Monday, the RDC and her team launched a successful operation by arresting 10 school-going children who were found at home, as well as some parents.

‎In a statement, Akech emphasized the importance of this operation in strengthening the education system and promoting good performance among students.

‎She believes that keeping learners at home not only hinders their learning but also leads to poor academic results, which have been a concern in Dokolo for the past two years.

‎Akech warned educational stakeholders against failing to implement education policies, stating that they are the ones who know which homes are not sending their children to school.

‎This operation serves as a reminder to them to take their responsibilities seriously and ensure that every child in the district has access to quality education.

‎One of the local councilors, Rafael Okello, expressed his disappointment during a recent visit to schools in Bata town council.

‎He witnessed a low turnout of students, which prompted him to seek help from the RDC’s office.

‎He hopes that this operation will continue until the end of the academic year, as it is crucial in ensuring that students are not deprived of their right to education.

‎Okello’s sentiments were mirrored by Agnes Ongom, the secretary of Health and Education in Bata town council.

‎She pointed out that education is the only remaining source of wealth for many in the community and encouraged parents to prioritize their children’s education.

‎She also announced that, as a local government, they will ensure that all candidates are screened before being registered for their final exams and those who do not meet the required marks will not be enrolled for national exam.

‎Ongom also highlighted the issue of parents being hesitant to let their children repeat classes, which has contributed to a high number of students failing national exams.

‎She stated that this initiative will not only help minimize Division U in exams but also set a higher standard for academic achievement in the district.

‎It is evident that the operation led by RDC Barbra Akech has been met with positive reactions from both local leaders and educational stakeholders.

‎In the 2024 Primary Leaving Examination results released recently, Dokolo district registered 116 pupils in Division one and over 500 in Division U.
