Tuesday 8th April 2025, the High Commissioner of Uganda to the Republic of Botswana, Ambassador Paul Amoru, held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Botswana, Hon. Dr. Phenyo Butale, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Gaborone, Botswana.
The purpose of the meeting was to discus on matters pertinent to the bilateral relations between Uganda and Botswana in the fields of trade, investments, tourism and agriculture between both countries.
The High Commissioner congratulated the new leadership upon their successful election and wished them well in the implementation of their manifesto.
He presented to him the progress that have so gar been made with the previous administration, both at the political and technical and scientific domain, which has continued to strengthen bilateral relations between Uganda and Botswana.
He informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is finalising internal consultations on the proposed MOU on Political and Diplomatic Consultations between Botswana and Uganda and would revert as soon as possible.
The Minister appreciated the courtesy call made on him and requested for Uganda’s response to the Botswana’s proposed Memorandum on Political and Diplomatic Consultation, which will act as a framework for furtherance of deeper cooperation between Uganda and Botswana in various key areas.
The honourable Minister finalized by reiterating the Ministry’s commitment to working with the High Commission and the government of Uganda to deepen cooperation between Botswana and Uganda in particular, and strengthening intra-African collaborative approaches as a way of pivoting our continental independence.
He called upon both countries to prioritise implementation of agreed upon cooperation frameworks.
As a gesture of the strong ties between the two countries, both the Minister and the High Commissioner decorated the each other with the lapel pins depicting the flags of both countries .
In attendance from Uganda’s side were: Amb. Kintu Nyago, Mr. Sebastian Okello (Honorary Consul of Uganda in Botswana), and Mr. Opio Richard Bob, Desk Officer for Botswana.
