Leadership plays a crucial role in the success of any community or business enterprise. With the right mindset, leaders can harness the potential of their communities and create positive change.
That is why Enterprise Uganda recently organized a training program for Parish Development Modal (PDM) SACCO leaders and beneficiaries in Dokolo district aiming to equip them with a growth mindset and business skills to uplift their communities.
The training, which took place at the Dokolo district Council Hall, saw the participation of Sacco leaders, extension workers, CDOs, town agents, parish chiefs, and PDM beneficiaries.
The program focused on three sub-counties – Dokolo, Amwoma, and Dokolo town council.Noah Wandera, an officer from Enterprise Uganda, emphasized the importance of shifting from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset.
He urged the participants to embrace entrepreneurship and commercial farming as a means to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
Wandera also encouraged them to spread the knowledge and skills gained from the training to their communities.
During the training, Wandera identified some challenges hindering business activities in the Lango Sub-region, such as laziness, idleness, jealousy, cultural beliefs, and ignorance.
He stressed the need to overcome these negative attitudes that can lead to poverty and instead focus on productive and sustainable business practices.
Poul Otim, the Coordinator of Enterprise Uganda in charge of Northern Uganda, highlighted the importance of utilizing PDM funds to start businesses and generate profits.
He encouraged the PDM beneficiaries to use the funds to transform their lives and eradicate poverty in their households.
Otim also shared that Enterprise Uganda offers various services, including training support, government program support, and market vendor support, to equip people with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective business management.
Patrick Alyenyo, the District Commercial Officer Dokolo appealed to the beneficiaries of the PDM training to embrace it positively.
He emphasized the importance of utilizing the training to its fullest potential in order to improve their businesses and overall livelihoods.
Jaffer Ocaya, the Assistant Residence District Commissioner Dokolo, echoed this sentiment in his closing remarks.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the PDM funds wisely and not fall prey to mismanagement.
He called for the community to actively address issues such as domestic violence and family divorces which can lead to poverty.
Enterprise Uganda’s efforts in training and developing leaders and entrepreneurs will not only benefit the individuals themselves but also create a ripple effect of economic growth and development in the entire community.
The training program by Enterprise Uganda serves as a reminder that mindset change is a crucial element in achieving success in any endeavor.
