AMUDAT: General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Presidential candidate for the National Resistance Movement party, has urged the people of Amudat district in Karamoja sub region to disregard any claims of the land being unsuitable for agriculture.
He believes that the area has fertile land with great potential for agricultural activities, citing successful stories from local farmers.
To support this, Museveni has proposed the establishment of a joint fund to assist farmers in their cooperatives and associations.
”This fund would cover the transportation of their produce and livestock to better markets, preventing exploitation by middlemen” he explained.
During his campaign rally at Kalas Girls Primary School, he explained how this support fund would be implemented in the next term of office.
Museveni also maintains a ban on Turkana people from Kenya grazing their animals in Amudat district or anywhere in Uganda.
According to him this is due to the recent murder of Ugandan geologists by criminal Turkana groups during survey missions in Karamoja sub region.
He stresses that the Turkana people must compensate for the lives lost, either personally or through their government, before any grazing can be allowed again.
He has promised to return to Amudat district with Kenyan President William Ruto to conduct necessary ceremonies with local elders and affected families.
Furthermore, Museveni reiterates his stance against armed groups in Amudat district and the entire Karamoja sub region.
He assures the people that the NRM government has the capacity to protect all Ugandan from aggression across the border.
According to Mr. Museveni, the Amudat district has a remarkable history, marked by insecurity challenges that have now been resolved by the NRM government.
”In the past, the failure of previous regimes to properly define election boundaries resulted in gerrymandering and inconsistent constituencies that discriminated against Amudat and left it vulnerable to insecurity and neglect” he noted.
However, ever since the NRM government took charge and created clear district boundaries and constituencies during the 1995 Constitutional Assembly, the district has seen remarkable growth and development. he said.
Mr. Museveni commends the government for effectively addressing the historical challenges facing Amudat.
In a rallying call, Mr. Museveni urges the people of Amudat to continue supporting the NRM government to ensure even more progress and success for the district in the future.
In the last Presidential Elections, Amudat district had 43,647 registered voters and out of these, 31,453 (72.1%) voted.
President Museveni, the NRM flagbearer, polled 97.6%.Currently, Amudat has 58,203 registered voters. The voters increased by 14,556.
