Electorates Unite Behind UPC’s Vincent Opito for Dokolo South Parliamentary Seat in Quest for Reform‎

DOKOLO SOUTH: As the 2026-31 general election voting dates approaches in Uganda starting with the parliamentary and presidential elections on January 15, 2026, tensions run high as political parties battle for seats in parliament. ‎

However, a surprising turn of events in the Dokolo South constituency where incumbent MP Felix Okot (NRM), Vincent Opito (UPC) and Julius Engwau (DP) are competing has caught the attention of many.

‎In a move that transcends traditional party politics, members from the National Resistant Movement (NRM) and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have come together to support one candidate: Vincent Opito of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC).

Opito is gaining widespread support from members of different political parties in his bid to become the Member of Parliament for Dokolo South.‎

During a campaign event in Adeknino Sub county on Thursday and Eastern Ward Dokolo town council on Friday, Opito’s bid for MP was championed by members from NRM and FDC. ‎

This collaboration has sparked conversation and raised eyebrows, as many people think it is against the usual narrative of competing against each other.‎

Moses Ogwang the UPC party chairperson for Dokolo town council said this display of cross-party support sheds light on Opito’s character and his ability to bring people together for a common cause.‎

One of his supporters, Francis Opige, a member of the NRM party, made it clear that he is not willing to join any opposition party, but is rallying voters to support both NRM presidential candidate Gen. Yoweri Museveni and Vincent Opito for the Dokolo South MP seat.

‎This sentiment was echoed by Boniface Ongom, a leader of the Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) party for Dokolo South, who declared Opito as the only candidate with a strong heart and good agenda that will drive the community towards positive change.

‎Even former NRM party chairperson for Dokolo town council, Patrick Opio Obote, highlighted the need for change in leadership, stating that the community is tired of getting small handouts from their incumbent leader.

Walter Onyang, the former NRM party chairperson for Okwongodul sub county and clan leader of Okarowok Wibie Acel, emphasized the need for change in Dokolo South. ‎

He urged the electorate to vote for Opito regardless of party affiliation, stating that the constituency needs a leader who will prioritize the needs of the people.‎

It is not just party leaders who are showing their support for Opito. Emede Susan, a resident from Adeknino, stressed the importance of having a good leader in the community, and expressed her confidence in Opito’s abilities.

Similarly, Florence Apili of Dokolo town council urged the voters to choose leaders who prioritize community concerns, rather than simply voting for a particular political party. ‎

Another voter, Omol Okoda, drew a parallel between political parties and clans, emphasizing that party loyalty should not cloud people’s judgment when it comes to choosing effective leaders.

But what is driving this surge of support for Opito from members of different parties? The answer lies in Opito’s Manifesto to work with everyone, regardless of their political affiliation.

In his address to the rally, Opito promised to work with everyone, regardless of their political affiliations.

‎”I understands that in order to make a real difference in the community, i needs the support of all individuals and parties” Opito said while campaigning in Eastern Ward Dokolo town council on Friday.

He emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in bringing about positive change for the people of Dokolo South.

‎Opito also pledged to introduce profit making projects in each homestead if he is elected, further demonstrating his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.

Opito’s campaign has also focused on important community issues, such as health.‎

He has pledged to lead the fight against sickle cell disease, a prevalent and often misunderstood condition in Uganda.

Opito warned the electorates against being swayed by small gifts from politicians, stating that these are meant to buy votes rather than genuinely serve the people.
