KABERAMAIDO: Isala Veronica Eragu Bichetero, an independent MP candidate for Ocero county in Kaberamaido district has taken a stand to prioritize education for Girls and boys within landing sites.
The eight (8) landing sites in Ocero county namely; Kigera, Okile, Murem, Alau, Doya, Atubo, AKampala, Oyala seem like just another part of Uganda’s fishing community, but Isala understands the struggles and challenges they face.
Lack of knowledge about the fight against illegal fishing and limited access to proper fishing gear are just some of the issues that Isala aims to address if she is elected.
“I will make sure the fishing community receives the necessary knowledge and fishing gears with my support and government of uganda,” Isala confidently stated.
She believes that with proper education and resources, the fishing community can thrive and improve their living conditions.
However, Isala also recognizes the tendency of wasting all the money earned in a single day of fishing.
She points out that this mindset is detrimental to the community’s financial stability and ultimately leaves them in poverty.
To combat this, Isala plans to promote a saving culture among fishers. This means setting up a small business that their wives can manage while the men are out fishing.
But her plans don’t just stop there. Isala’s main focus is on Girl child and boy child education.
Being a lady herself, she empathizes with the young girls and boys in the community who drop out of school and engage in early marriages or unproductive activities.
Isala believes that education is the key to a brighter future and promises to make it a priority once she is elected.
Isala’s vision for the community does not end at education.
She also aims to industrialize the area, creating more employment opportunities for residents.
Additionally, she plans to lobby for a public university to be established in Kaberamaido, providing access to higher education for the youth.
It is important to note that Isala is an independent candidate, which may raise some concerns among voters. However, she assures the community that her loyalty lies with the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
“In fact, i played a significant role in drafting the NRM’s ten (10) point program. My loss in the party primary election should not be a hindrance as i remains a staunch supporter of NRM and continues to campaign for my presidential candidate, Gen. Yoweri Museveni” she said.
