DOKOLO: ISBAT University and the Uganda Small Scale Industries Association (USSIA) have started a ten-day training on Digital Literacy for SMEs, sponsored by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) under the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF).‎‎

This training aims to equip business owners with the necessary knowledge and skills to thrive in this digital age.‎‎

According to Dennis Mugeni, the membership officer of USSIA, the organization is dedicated to bringing knowledge and information to businesses in the area anticipating over 300 small scale industrialists to benefit from the knowledge and skills to be imparted during this ten days training.‎‎

He said the training will be held in two venues, Dokolo Town Council hall and Bata Town Council covering a variety of areas, including the use of smartphones for marketing and how to protect yourself and your business from online scams and hacks.

‎‎”We are equipping them with the knowledge to trade and market online. This is crucial as we have seen many people fall victim to scams and hacks through social media platforms.” Mugeni said.‎‎

He also emphasizes on the need for businesses to adapt to the digital world in order to stay relevant, competitive as well as get creative.‎‎

“We understand that poor connectivity is a challenge in Dokolo, but we have experts on ground who are surveying the area to address the communication gap and improve the services. We urge you to take advantage of this opportunity to learn and grow your business.” he noted.‎‎

The officials confirmed that the training has already started with over 100 participants on Thursday but said there is still room for more advising people not to miss out on this chance to enhance their digital literacy and receive a Certificate from the Uganda Communications Commission.‎

The trainers Arnold Okwir, Yiga Michael (HUNTER) and David Masika, from  ISBAT University, said this training is free and running from 9:00 – 4:00 pm each day for the ten days.‎‎

The team urges the people of Dokolo and Lango to take advantage of this opportunity as they will provide certificates of participation upon completion.‎‎

They further said the main objective of the training is to promote online trade and marketing in the region.‎‎

Highlighting the potential for profit and growth, Okwir reminds individuals that instead of wasting time on unproductive online activities, they can use their computer and other smart devices with the attained internet skills to make money, conduct research, and promote their businesses.‎
