DOKOLO: Dokolo District has made significant strides in improving access to clean and safe water for its communities.
According to the assistant Engineering Officer, Tonny Ojuka, in the Financial Year 2025/2026, the Dokolo District Local Government commissioned six new boreholes, bringing much-needed relief to the residents of the district.
He said this milestone was achieved through the diligent work of the ICON Project Contractors, who drilled the boreholes at a cost of UGX 120 million.
Ojuka said the newly commissioned boreholes are located in Owangai Cell in Angai Ward, Alela Cell in Akurulango Ward, and Acenlworo B Cell in Dokolo Town Council, all in Dokolo South. Additionally, Acan-Onyomo in Alenga, Dokolo Sub-county, Kachung HC II in Agwata Sub-county, and Amunamun in Adok Sub-county, all in Dokolo North, also received new boreholes.
In his remarks, Eng. Ojuka emphasized the importance of protecting these water sources and urged Water User Committees to follow the set guidelines to ensure sustainability of the boreholes.
He also applauded Dokolo District Local Government for its commitment to improving access to clean water for its communities.
The commissioning of these boreholes was hailed by Santos Okuja, the Secretary for Health and Education in Dokolo District, who commended the leadership of LCV Chairperson James Otto Apili.
Okuja called for a spirit of teamwork and unity within the community to support government programmes.
In response, James Otto Apili, the LCV Chairperson of Dokolo District, expressed his appreciation for the support and cooperation of the community.
He also highlighted the importance of community involvement and ownership in government initiatives for sustainable development.
The impact of these new boreholes was evident in the words of Eveline Abaao, the LC I Chairperson of Owangai; Basil Omara, the LC I Chairperson of Alela Cell; and Joseph Ayutu, the Chairperson of the Water User Committee for Acenlworo.
They praised NRM government for her dedication to improving service delivery in the district and pledged to support president Museveni in the next elections.
