DOKOLO NORTH: The campaign trail in Dokolo North has taken a significant turn with women and youth throwing their weight behind Independent candidate Josephine Acen Okullo.
The enthusiastic support for Acen, a mother and former District Education Officer (DEO) Amolatar, is largely attributed to her commitment to empowering women and youth through skills development and her track record of community service.

At a recent campaign rally in Amwoma sub-county, Acen Okullo was seen facilitating women and youth with basic skills in various fields such as welding and metal fabrication, tailoring and garment cutting, hairdressing, and more.
This initiative is in line with her promise to establish free skill development centers in Dokolo North, a move that has resonated with many, especially the youth and women.
Goretty Lawrence Obura, a resident of Adagani village in Amwoma sub county, spoke during the rally, emphasizing that Dokolo North has previously sent a male representative to parliament who has failed to deliver.
She expressed the community’s hope for a change, saying, “We are hoping for a woman this time, someone who understands our needs and can represent us effectively.”
Sabella Ekola, another woman from Awat village, echoed Goretty’s sentiments, urging all women to rally behind Acen Josephine.
Ekola highlighted Acen’s selfless service, citing her provision of an ambulance that transports expectant mothers and children free of charge.
”Dokolo North has bad roads, and when we go to health facilities, we face challenges of electricity, where we are forced to use torches to light up during deliveries,” Ekola said.
She emphasized that Acen’s initiatives have greatly benefited women and that her election would be a game-changer for the community.
Daniel Omunu, a youth leader, advised his peers to support Acen Josephine, citing her clear plan to create parish skilling centers for youth and women.
”Out of the six candidates contesting in Dokolo North, Acen Josephine is the only one with a comprehensive plan to empower youth and women through skills development,” Omunu said.
He also noted that Acen’s provision of an ambulance before even being a member of parliament demonstrates her commitment to people’s lives.
Omunu further emphasized that Acen’s motherly instincts make her the ideal candidate.
“I know very well that a person who is a mother will never leave her children, and the only mother in this race is Acen Josephine Okullo,” he said.
Speaking during the rally, Acen promises to prioritize skills development, healthcare, improve education and community empowerment, offering a fresh and hopeful perspective to the people of Dokolo North.

The enthusiasm and support for Acen Josephine Okullo are palpable in Dokolo North, with many residents convinced that she is the right candidate to bring about positive change.
