The Dokolo North county parliamentary seat has a history of intense competition, with notable politicians like Paul Amoru, who was appointed as Uganda’s high commissioner to Pretoria (South Africa) after 2021 election and Okello – Okello John Baptist, the current Dokolo district service commission chairperson among others.
As the election approaches, the question of “who” the supporters of Paul Amoru and Okello – Okello John Baptist will vote for in the Dokolo North parliamentary race remains unanswered as the two prominent politicians will not appear on the ballot.
The county with only eight (8) sub counties experienced a fierce battle in the 2021 general election, with many candidates vying for the parliamentary seat.
In the end, Ogwal Moses Goli of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) emerged victorious with 11,428 votes, defeating all of his opponents such as Paul Amoru who got 11,180 votes, Okello-Okello John Baptist who got 6,173 votes, Ojok Francis who got 4,388 votes, Orech Christopher who got 396 votes, and Akejo Bob Mike who got 203 votes.
The people of the county came together to work with Goli as their representative in parliament, trusting in his ability to bring positive change to the community.
However, with the appointment of Paul Amoru as Uganda’s high commissioner to Pretoria, and the political retirement of Okello-Okello John Baptist, the ground becomes favorable for Francis Ojok of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) to contest and win against Goli in the 2026-31 elections before his party switch to NRM and bounced back to UPC immediately.
With a new set of candidates nominated, including Josephine Acen Okullo (Independent), Geoffrey Ebyeru (NUP) Joseph Johns Ogwal (NRM), Ogwal Moses Goli (independent) and Alfred Okello Junior, the question remains whether Francis Ojok can finally defeat them all as the party is facing an uphill battle to assert its presence in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
Despite having Francis Ojok as its flag bearer for Dokolo North, UPC is struggling with internal divisions making the party’s chances appear to be dwindling with key leaders abandoning Ojok’s campaign.
According to sources, the UPC party’s top leaders in Lango have joined the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential campaign team, leaving the party’s parliamentary flag bearers to fend for themselves.
Agnes Akot, the UPC party treasurer for Dokolo North county, has publicly abandoned Ojok, citing that the party’s interests should not take precedence over the needs of the community. Akot has been campaigning for independent candidate Josephine Acen Okullo, saying that she is a leader who prioritizes solving community problems.

Similarly, Alfred Okao, the UPC party chairperson for Agwata town council, has also abandoned Ojok and is campaigning for Acen.
Geoffrey Oko, the UPC party youth league chairperson for Dokolo North county and UPC party flag bearer for Dokolo sub county LC3 chairperson has also joined the bandwagon, citing that Acen’s manifesto is more well-organized and capable of addressing the community’s needs.
Raphael Okello, the publicity secretary of the NRM party for Dokolo district, showed his support to independent candidate Moses Ogwal Goli.
He said “I want to thank Goli for securing 37,000 hand hoes that will be given to the community in Dokolo North.
While welcome Moses Ogwal Goli in Bata town council recently, Okello appealed to the MP to donate other varieties of cassava and support church construction in Dokolo North.

Morris KG Okao, the NRM flag bearer also the LCIII Chairperson of Agwata Sub county, urged the people of Dokolo North to elect Ogwal Goli, whom he described as a leader with capacities and abilities to lobby for projects that support the community.
