Apac, Uganda – A violent clash broke out between supporters of two rival politicians in Apac District, leaving several people injured and a vehicle damaged.
The incident occurred on January 5, 2026, at around 1908 hours, when supporters of Hon. Akora Maxwell, a Member of Parliament for Maruzu County, and Hon. Ocan Patrick, allegedly clashed at Corner Amoro cell, Agulu Division, Apac Municipality.
According to SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga regional Police spokesperson, the two groups allegedly met while returning from separate campaign rallies, and a fight ensued.
Hon. Akora Maxwell’s supporters, including several individuals, were badly injured, and his motor vehicle, a Toyota Noah with registration number UBS 716L, was damaged.
The victims, who were rescued by police and taken to the hospital for treatment, include Nyangkiri Nickson, Adongo Kevin Vicky, Akello Agnes, Agol Teddy, Adong Rose, Apio Dorus, Auma Ketty, Agweng Dilish, Okullu Morgan, and Adoko Walter, among others.
Okema said the police have identified the suspects as supporters of Hon. Ocan Patrick. A case was registered at Apac Central Police Station (CPS) on January 5, 2026, at 1914 hours, and investigations are ongoing.
In a bid to restore peace and harmony, Okema said a meeting was held on January 6, 2026, between the District Security Committee to ensure harmony on both parties.
The committee emphasized that the law will prevail, and those involved in the violence will be brought to justice.
However, the police have expressed concern that neither the complainant nor the victims have followed up on the matter, urging them to cooperate with the investigation. “We appeal to them to support police with investigation, not just making a report for the sake,” said Okema.
The incident has raised concerns about the escalating tensions and violence in the run-up to the elections. The police have assured the public that they will thoroughly investigate the matter and bring those responsible to account.
The rivalry between Hon. Akora Maxwell and Hon. Ocan Patrick is not new, with both politicians vying for the same parliamentary seat.
