The Fierce Race for Dokolo District Speakership: NRM Councilors Eager to take the Seat Again

The race for the position of Speaker in Dokolo District has officially begun, with five ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) councilors expressing their interest in the role. ‎‎

This has sparked a battle for the coveted position, as these councilors vie for the support of their fellow party members.‎‎

The five NRM councilors who have confirmed their candidature to our news desk are Bonny Alilo, Joel Opota Okuma, Alex Owera Omola, Abel Okullo, and Edward Okuk Oluma.

These councilors represent different areas within the district, including Dokolo town council, Agwata town council, Dokolo Sub-county, and Bata Sub-County.

‎‎In an exclusive interview with LBS reporter, Bonny Alilo stated that he believes he is the best candidate for the position.

He expressed his desire to bring about positive change and development in Dokolo District through effective leadership as the Speaker.‎‎

Abel Okullo, who is serving for a second term as a councilor, also put his name in the running for the Speaker position. ‎‎He promised to promote unity and uphold the integrity of the council if elected.‎‎

Meanwhile, Alex Owera Omola emphasized his experience and knowledge of council procedures as his major qualifications for the Speakership.‎‎

He aims to bridge the gap between technocrats and politicians in the district to ensure efficient governance.‎‎

The current Speaker, Joel Opota Okuma, also threw his hat in the ring, stating that he is the most suitable candidate for the position. ‎‎

He hopes to continue his service to the district and its people in a leadership role.‎‎According to the law, the tenure for the serving councilors will expire in May 2026, as the new councilors take on their roles for the next five years. ‎‎

As the Dokolo District council prepares for the transition to new leadership, the battle for the Speakership promises to be an intense and closely watched affair. ‎
