In today’s world, where technology is rapidly advancing, having a national ID has become more crucial than ever. It not only serves as identification but also allows individuals to access various services and participate in important activities.

However, officials has revealed that Dokolo District NIRA office located in Dokolo Town Council along Dokolo – Bata road is holding a total of 41,064 uncollected national ID cards,

Dokolo District has a total population of 215,625 people, including 108,260 males and 107,365 females, according to the 2024 National Population and Housing Census.

The district is made up of ten (10) Sub counties and four (4) town council of Dokolo, Agwata, Bata and Kangai respectively.

Speaking to LBS radio recently, Dokolo NIRA Focal point Person George Davis Nyazi revealed that out of 61,464 IDs received after renewal and regulation activities, 20,400 have been issued out to owners leaving 41,064 uncollected.

‎He explained that to find solutions and make it collected, NIRA has kicked off outreach programs in various Sub-Counties in Dokolo aiming to facilitate easier ID collection for applicants.

‎Nyazi urged the community to take advantage of the outreach programs, noting many IDs are back as he said that many people are receiving messages on their phones to collect their IDs and encouraged those without phones to reach out, promising NIRA will check on their ID status.

“Our services are free, except registration of birth certificate, changing particulars which costs 200,000, lost or renewal of ID costs 50,000 after completing the required procedures but collection is free” he said.

‎Dokolo Resident District Commissioner Babra Aketch stressed that national ID is a critical document required for accessing government services like PDM, Emyooga, Education, opening bank accounts, registering SIM cards, and participating in civic processes, among other activities.

Aketch said lack of ID can hinder future opportunities since many services and activities now require this identification.

Local leaders and community members are urged to help sensitize residents on the importance of collecting their national identity cards.
