The Consequences of Selling Gov’t Drugs: A Warning from Dokolo RDC  Babra Akech.‎‎

Dokolo, Uganda — The Resident District Commissioner for Dokolo District, Babra Akech, has warned drug shop owners against selling government drugs and expired medications. ‎‎

Akech delivered the stern warning at a stakeholders meeting attended by over 40 drug shop owners in Dokolo, emphasizing that selling government-labelled drugs is an offense with serious consequences.‎‎

Akech highlighted cases of aggression towards technical staff during inspections in areas like Okwalongwen and Kangai, stating that violence or obstruction won’t be tolerated. ‎‎

She urged owners to view inspectors and the National Drug Authority (NDA) as partners in their business growth, equipped to guide on compliance, safety, and best practices.‎‎

Lawrence Taremwa, the National Drug Authority Drug Inspector for Northern Region, reminded owners of the Do’s and Don’t’s, licensing renewal procedures, and NDA duties. ‎‎

He warned that owners have six months to follow procedure for impounded drugs and advised against selling government drugs or expired medications, which put citizens’ lives at risk.‎‎

Participants, including Achomo Patricia of God’s Son Drug shop and Solomon Okello of Vision Drug shop, pledged to implement guidelines and work with NDA for better services. ‎‎

The meeting aimed to promote compliance and protect community health and safety.‎
