Former CS Tuju Charged with Giving False Information to a Public Officer, Case Set for April 15‎‎

KENYA: The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged former Cabinet Secretary (CS) Raphael Tuju with giving false information to a public officer.‎‎

Tuju was today arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts, where he faced charges of providing false information contrary to Section 129(a) of the Penal Code.‎‎

The matter is handled by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Maryanne Mwangi and Principal Prosecution Counsel Micheal Mutune.

‎‎Prosecution told court the accused knowingly misled law enforcement, an offence that undermines effective policing and public trust.‎‎

The alleged offence was committed on 21st March 2026, at the Entim Sidai Spa Wellness Sanctuary within Lang’ata Sub-County. ‎‎

The court heard that Tuju informed Chief Inspector Purity Kobia, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Karen Police Station, that he had been trailed by unknown assailants and later abducted, claims the prosecution asserts were false and intended to prompt official action.

‎‎The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges before Chief Magistrate Stella Atambo.‎‎

The case will be mentioned on 15th April 2026 for further directions.

‎‎Raphael Tuju was first elected to parliament in 2002 representing Rarieda constituency until 2007.

During this period, Tuju served as the Minister of Information and Communications and Minister for Tourism and Wildlife, and later became Foreign Affairs Minister in cabinet reshuffle in 2005.‎‎

After losing the 2007 parliamentary election, former President Kibaki appointed Tuju as an advisor and as a Special Envoy of the president on various missions.‎‎

Tuju became the Secretary-General of Jubilee Party in 2012, the vehicle that propelled Uhuru and Ruto to power in 2013. ‎‎

In 2018, Uhuru named Tuju as a Cabinet Secretary without a portfolio.‎
