The evening air at the Judiciary Headquarters in Kampala came alive as Judicial Officers and staff gathered for an energetic session of aerobics and Zumba, setting aside the day’s demands for exercise, laughter, and team building.
Addressing participants, the Principal Judge, Jane Frances Abodo, commended staff for turning up in large numbers and sustaining the momentum of the wellness sessions. She appreciated Court of Appeal’s Lady Justice Eva Luswata for inspiring the initiative, noting that it continues to bring together staff across all levels of the institution.
The Principal Judge also used the occasion to emphasise the importance of the Judiciary Strategic Plan IV, describing it as the institution’s guiding document that sets out priorities, goals, and activities over a five-year period. She explained that the plan outlines what the Judiciary seeks to achieve, how service delivery will be improved, and how resources will be planned and utilised.
She stressed that all activities, including staff wellness programmes, must be incorporated into the Strategic Plan to secure funding and institutional support. The Principal Judge encouraged staff to take time to understand the plan, noting that familiarity with it fosters ownership and ensures that all efforts are aligned with the Judiciary’s broader objectives.
In brief remarks, the Commissioner Policy and Planning, Mr Simon Peter Opolot, who represented the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, thanked the Principal Judge for her consistent leadership in promoting staff welfare initiatives.
Mr Opolot urged staff to actively engage with the Strategic Plan IV and the annual work plans derived from it. He explained that the plan translates into clear activities and targets for each department and registry over the next five financial years, guiding daily operations, budgeting, and performance measurement across the Judiciary.
He encouraged staff to review their departmental work plans carefully to understand expectations and deliverables, emphasising that aligning individual roles with institutional priorities enhances coordination, accountability, and overall justice delivery
