Dokolo District Communication Officer, Musafiri Suwed, has called for immediate action to cut down dry branches surrounding the Mayor’s Garden following the death of 36-year-old Godfrey Okello, who was killed by a falling tree on Wednesday.
Okello was crossing the garden to pick up his children from school when the incident occurred, causing fatal injuries.
Musafiri expressed condolences to the family, attributing the incident to God’s will, and noted the trees were planted by historical figure Semei Kakungulu.
He is now urging the forestry department to act to prevent similar incidents and cautioning community members, especially Boda Boda riders, to avoid gathering under the trees due to safety risks.
According to Suwed, Okello’s body was taken to Kaberamaido hospital for postmortem.
