KALAKI: A suspected high rate of alcohol consumption has resulted in the tragic death of a 40-year-old man at a bar in Otuboi Sub County, located in Kalaki District.
Identified as Yuben Oyok, a resident of Omodera village in Opiltok parish, he had visited his local bar, Yoo-Leng Bar, where he indulged in excessive drinking.
David Edyau, the LCI Chairperson of Kamure village, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview on Thursday.
Edyau explained that Oyok had consumed alcohol without eating and ultimately passed out, leading to his death.
The community members found him unconscious in the bar the following morning, but could not save him.
The authorities, including the local police, have been notified and an investigation is underway.
By press time the body of the deceased was still at the bar, as the police were informed to conduct their investigation.
Meanwhile, Moses Oryada, the LCIII Chairperson of Otuboi Sub County, has warned the community to be cautious about their alcohol consumption.
Oyok was known as a heavy drinker in the area, according to initial findings.
Despite attempts to seek a comment from the Kalaki District police commander, no response was received by press time.
