Dokolo, Uganda – In a bid to transform the lives of residents in Dokolo district, woman MP candidate Anna Okwir Bung (independent) has pledged to prioritize economic empowerment as her top agenda if elected as the woman MP for Dokolo district in the 2026-31 term.

Speaking to residents of Igung village in Dokolo sub county, Dokolo district, Anna Okwir, a former district councilor representing Kangai sub-county, emphasized that economic empowerment is the key to unlocking the potential of households in the district.
She noted that poverty is a major challenge facing the district, hindering access to basic necessities like quality education, healthcare, clean water, and human capital development.
To address this challenge, Anna Okwir promised to implement a program that will provide “uzima chicken” to women, enabling them to generate income and improve their household’s economic stability.
“As a woman, I understand the challenges we face in our daily lives. That’s why my focus will be on empowering women economically. I plan to donate ‘Uzima’ chickens to women, which will help them generate income and improve their livelihoods.” Anna Okwir explained.

She believes that by empowering women, she can help reduce poverty and promote family welfare.
“We need to address the root cause of poverty. That’s why I’ll focus on initiatives that bring income to households. We’ll also work with churches and women’s groups to support entrepreneurship and skills development.” she said.
In addition to economic empowerment, Anna Okwir outlined her plans to improve healthcare, education, and infrastructure in the district.
She promised to bring health experts and conduct health camps to screen for various diseases.

She also criticized politicians who have bought ambulances but turned them into distribution channels for alcohol to voters saying Alcohol will never be a solution to problems affecting communities in Dokolo district.
On education, Anna Okwir condemned politicians who buy exams from outside the region, saying it undermines the role of teachers and compromises the integrity of the education system.
“We need to stop this culture of buying exams for pupils. It’s not right. We need to empower our teachers to set exams that reflect the skills of our children” Okwir noted.
Instead, she proposed that teachers in Dokolo should be given the autonomy to set exams based on the syllabus they have covered.
Local leaders and residents have welcomed Anna Okwir’s promises, with Tonny Agal, LC1 chairperson of Igung village, highlighting the need for clean water and equal distribution of resources.
