The Dokolo district Health Educator Patrick Diox Ouni has called for proper usage of mosquito nets and has cautioned against their misuse for fishing and poultry protection.
On December 22, 2025, Dokolo District received 2,521 bales of mosquito nets from the Ministry of Health. These nets were then distributed to the community through local leaders.

Speaking to our reporter recently, Ouni expressed his disappointment over the reported misuse of these crucial tools in the fight against malaria.
Mr. Ouni stressed that malaria still remains a burden to the health sector, community, and the government of Uganda has implemented various measures to combat it.
”These include indoor residual spraying, environmental compliance, and the distribution of treated mosquito nets. However, out of 10 people who visit health facilities, 6 test positive for malaria, a concerning statistic that highlights the severity of the issue” Ouni explained.
He urged the community to adhere to the procedures laid out by the government to protect against malaria, particularly, sleeping under treated mosquito nets.
However, he expressed his concerns over the misuse of these nets, with reports of some individuals using them for fishing instead. He emphasized that those caught using the nets for fishing will face consequences.
According to Ouni, One of the key challenges faced during the distribution of the nets was the overwhelming population in the district, resulting in a shortage of nets.
To fill this gap, Mr. Ouni encouraged households with larger populations to utilize their resources to purchase additional nets.
He also reminded pregnant women to continue visiting health facilities and emphasized the importance of keeping the environment clean to prevent mosquito breeding.
The Dokolo District Health Educator reiterated the government’s commitment to combat malaria and urged the community to play their part in this fight.
