Dokolo District Engineer Urges Community to Safeguard Roads Ahead of Rainy Season

By Musafiri A Suwed aka Mr. Blick Communication Officer Dokolo DLG

DOKOLO : As the rainy season approaches, it is important for the community to understand that water is the biggest enemy of roads and these habits contribute to road damage.

‎‎In Dokolo district, the district engineer, Thomas Codeos Okello, has made a crucial call to the people of Dokolo.

Okello emphasized the importance of protecting the roads within the district to ensure safe and smooth travel for all.‎‎

According to Okello, one of the biggest challenges faced by the roads in Dokolo is flooding.

This is due to the obstruction of off-shoots, which causes water to stagnate on the roads. ‎‎

Okello urged the community to provide maximum cooperation during road works, especially during the opening of off-shoots.

‎‎He explained that it is the responsibility of every citizen to keep the roads clear and unobstructed advising them against cultivating up to the road side drains. ‎‎

“This common practice not only blocks the flow of water but also leads to stagnation in the middle of the road. This can be a major inconvenience for road users and can even cause accidents” he said.‎‎

Another concern raised by Okello is the molding of bricks on road reserves saying this not only damages the roads but also reduces their lifespan. “The smoke from burning bricks can also be a hazard for road users as it can obstruct their vision while driving”.‎‎

Moreover, the engineer discouraged the practice of pulling ox-ploughs on the roads and watering animals.

“These activities cause ruts and corrugation on the roads, making them difficult to use” Okello said.‎‎

As the district continues to develop, the engineer shared some upcoming road projects. This includes the tarmacking of 0.7 kilometers of Kaguta road within Dokolo Town council. Not only will this improve the connectivity and accessibility of the town, but it will also enhance its overall cleanliness and beauty.‎‎

Furthermore, the district will also maintain 8 kilometers of the Alenga to Adala road to improve connectivity for the community.

‎‎Other road projects in the works include the 4 kilometers Abalang to Otongodel road and 6 kilometers of Alenga to Atabu to Bardege road. ‎‎

Okello assured that funds are available for these projects to be completed efficiently.
