Uganda’s Energy Sector Sees Robust Growth as UETCL Posts Strong Results

Kampala, Uganda — Uganda’s energy sector is gaining momentum, with the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) posting encouraging results for the financial year 2024/2025.

‎Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, highlighted the achievements at the company’s 17th Annual General Meeting yesterday.

UETCL recorded a 9.3% increase in revenue from energy sales, reaching UGX 1,672.8 billion, driven by an 11.8% growth in electricity sales volumes to 6,745.08 GWh.

‎The maximum system demand also grew to 1,202.9 MW, reflecting significant strides in Uganda’s energy infrastructure.

‎Addressing the meeting, Minister Nankabirwa commended the UETCL Board, led by Chair Kwame Ejalu, and the senior management team for their focus and discipline. “A reliable, expanding transmission network is the backbone of our industrialisation agenda and our commitment to universal access to electricity,” she said.

‎The minister emphasized that the results reflect real momentum in Uganda’s energy sector, adding, “We are building the Uganda we want, one megawatt at a time.”

‎The government’s efforts to boost energy infrastructure are expected to drive industrialization and increase access to electricity nationwide.
