ODPP and IJM Join Forces to Protect Women and Children from Violence‎‎

‎‎A productive engagement was held today between the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and International Justice Mission (IJM) to advance efforts to strengthen Uganda’s criminal justice system, with a particular focus on protecting women and children.‎‎

The meeting offered a platform to discuss key challenges in investigating and prosecuting cases involving Gender-Based Violence against women and children.

‎‎The focus was on improving case management, ensuring survivor-centered, trauma-informed approaches, and strengthening collaboration among justice actors throughout the criminal justice process.

‎‎Ms. Wamaitha Kimani, the Country Director of IJM, noted that IJM’s collaboration with the ODPP aims to strengthen the criminal justice system to better respond to crime, focusing on violence against women and children; reducing the prevalence of these crimes; improving the ODPP’s performance; and increasing public confidence and reliance on the ODPP.‎‎

Hon. Lino Anguzu, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), highlighted his plan to develop a more professional and responsive prosecution service that fosters public trust.

‎‎He stressed the importance of prioritizing areas like efforts against Gender-Based Violence, which make up the majority of cases in the criminal justice system.
