LIRA CITY Friday 19th June 2026: Lira Regional Referral Hospital Board, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Fred Nyankori, today Friday 19th June 2026, conducted an inspection of ongoing and recently completed infrastructure projects at the hospital and expressed satisfaction with the quality of work and progress achieved as the projects near completion and handover.

‎The inspection was undertaken during the Board’s Fourth Quarterly Meeting, which also marked the final meeting for the 2025/2026 Financial Year. As the apex governance body of the hospital, the Board assessed key capital development projects aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening the hospital’s infrastructure.

‎Among the projects inspected was the rehabilitation of a section of Police Road within the hospital premises, which is currently 85 percent complete.

The road is being upgraded using heavy-duty pavers and will be fitted with street lighting to enhance accessibility and safety.

‎The Board also inspected the completed renovation of the Eye Unit, the expansion of the Private Wing Outpatient Department (OPD), now at 98 percent completion, the rehabilitation of the Isolation Ward for infectious diseases, and the construction of canopies along major walkways throughout the hospital, which has been successfully completed.

‎Speaking after the inspection tour, Board Chairperson Dr. Fred Nyankori commended the progress made and noted the visible transformation taking place at the institution.

‎“We have inspected the ongoing works and are greatly impressed by the quality and pace of implementation. The transformation taking place at Lira Regional Referral Hospital is evident, and these investments will significantly improve the environment for both patients and healthcare workers,”  said Dr Nyangkori.

‎Dr. Nyankori further revealed that the Board has identified several strategic priorities for the 2026/2027 Financial Year.

These include reviewing the hospital’s 10-year Master Plan to accommodate the construction of a modern ward complex, renovation of existing wards, expansion of canopy coverage to all pedestrian walkways, and other infrastructure improvements aimed at supporting the hospital’s growing service demands.

‎The Hospital Director, Dr. Andrew Odur, thanked the Board for its strategic leadership and continued support, emphasizing management’s commitment to ensuring timely completion and effective utilization of all development projects.

‎Dr. Odur noted that the hospital will focus on consolidating the gains made over the past financial year by fully absorbing the UGX 6 billion wage allocation for staff recruitment and strengthening service delivery across specialized units.

‎“Our focus now is to consolidate these achievements by ensuring full utilization of the UGX 6 billion wage bill to recruit the required human resources and operationalize specialized services. We are committed to ensuring that critical units such as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Dialysis Centre, CT Scan Services, and the Regional Ambulance Call and Dispatch Centre operate efficiently and seamlessly for the benefit of the population we serve,” Dr. Odur said.

‎The Board reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance healthcare infrastructure, improve patient outcomes, and position Lira Regional Referral Hospital among the leading referral facilities in Uganda.
